Lyrics update

I'm working my butt off for you guys!

Posted by ROBERT on 29-Nov-06 in Who's Your Daddy!

Right now, when you click on the Get Lyrics link next to any song, the system automatically formats a Google request and does the search for you.  It works, but finding a site that doesn't bombard you with pop-ups is really a pain.

I want to make sure you have the best experience so I'm going through each and every song in our 23,000 song database and finding a direct link to the lyrics on a site without pop-ups.  There are a few sites out there that are great!

Lyrics Domain, Lyrics Freak, and Upper Cut Music  have huge lyrics libraries and best of all, no pop-ups.  As much as possible, I'll be linking directly to the lyrics on these sites.

There may be the occasional site that contains pop-ups, but that will only happen as a last resort.  I've got a long way to go as I only have a couple of hundred done so far, but new direct links to lyrics will be added daily.

If you have a specific request, let me know and I'll get that in ahead of the others!

Tricky Dick's Tonight

Easy Choice Tonight

Posted by ROBERT on 29-Nov-06 in Tricky Dick's Pub

Remember folks, the Wednesday show at Southern Comfort in Pompano beach has moved to Thursdays, so your choice for Karaoke tonight is easy...come out to Tricky Dick's in Boca for a great night of Karaoke with your host Sissy.

Last Sundays show was great.  In addition to a great crowd, they suprised us a couple of hours into the show.  They raffled off a several bottles of booze!  Two real and two of those large blowups that they had on the stage.  Our very own Ashbree walked away with the large blowup bottle of jaeger!  She was in heaven.  I'm sure it's gonna wind up as some kind of alter to the jaeger gods.

Anyway, come out tonight to Tricky Dicks and see if they have any more surprises up their sleeve...show starts at 10:00PM.

Goobs...Cancelled This Saturday ONLY!

We tried...

Posted by ROBERT on 25-Nov-06 in Goobs Grille and Bar

The owner at Goobs in Coral Springs feels there won't be enough of a crowd this Saturday night to justify having a show due to the Thanksgiviing holiday, so we won't be having the show at Goobs tonight.    We tried hard to convince him that this wouldn't be the case, but no go.  We'll be back at Goobs starting Saturday, December 2nd.

So, that makes your choice for where to go for Karaoke on Saturday night easy!  Come out to Southern Comfort in Pompano Beach tonight and get your Karaoke fix.

See you there!

My Karaoke Story

Posted by ASHBREE1 on 23-Nov-06 in Karaoke Stories

Good morning and Happy Turkey Day!

Ashley here...just got a sec to finally write my story (Robert...it's done! )

Well I could tell the stories of the **few** drunken to the point of obliteration nights I have shared with many of you at Goobs and Southern Comfort. But I would prefer to tell you how I actually got up to sing in the first place and then the start of Ashbree.

While working at Southern Comfort, I was threatened with my job (I still think he was serious lol) if I did not sing a karaoke duet with Lee. So I said fine, it was a song that wasn't difficult and the girl part was small. So that got me on a stage in front of people for the first time since my middle school years. Then while Off Key was doing monday shows at SoCo and I was working them, we began to have like three or four singers... because it was a rather slow night for a while (hence why the shows are no longer on Mondays and now its packed lol) and I decided I would get up there and make an ass of myself a few times. We started doing kamkize karaoke and I got kinda into it. Next thing you know I'm at Goobs with Aubs on Saturday nights and I just gave up on caring about blowing people's ear drums out!  Sissy and Aubs will both sit there and say IT TOOK YOU ALMOST TWO YEARS TO GET UP THERE AND NOW LOOK AT YOU! And it's true, I get up there now with no fear. And serenade people shit faced with REALLY loud songs like Call me When Your Sober, then I get into A Money gangsta shit and do some baby got back, and I might end it with a soft love ballad. Ya never know! I'm full of surprises!!   "A Money!"

As for Ashbree, it all started with one song. "Like We Never Loved At All". When I first started going to Goobs, that song was still a little senstive for both Aubree and myself, and to add some comic relief to it as it was sung, we decided to interpretive dance. Although I paid the price the next morning with lots of bruises on my knees from sliding on the floor, it was all worth it in the end. From then on, drunk or sober, Ashbree comes out to entertain the masses. I don't know if I would be as into karaoke as I have become without Ashbree Interpretive Dance Inc. It addes an all new flava to going out!

At the shows, I have had the opportunity to get to know a lot of really cool people! And I <3 them all! Anyone who is willing to sit with me after I dance around like a moron and do backbends in the middle of the bar is cool as shit in my book! Thanks for all the memories guys and I look forward to those yet to come!

I'm an O.G.

Dori's Karaoke Journey

Posted by DORI on 11-Nov-06 in Karaoke Stories

My Karaoke experience began before Off Key Karaoke was even thought of.

Almost three years ago, Aubree (now retired) and I used to work together at this hell-hole called Ruby Tuesday. (That's not libel since this is considered opinion- an editorial... take that, lawyers!). Anywho, she began this once-a-week job bartending at the sports mall in Deerfield Beach where her sister (Sissy) used to do Karaoke. Well, me and my best friend, Lauren, eventually decided to go. For the record, this was not your "typical" bar. There was a hockey rink on the left side, a soccer field on the right, and a food stand (and a bar) in the middle. I, to say the least, was hooked.

So after awhile, we became groupies. Whereever there was a show (and no early school the next day), we were there, cheering on our KJ's and requesting songs that we wanted them to sing. After some time, we became what is now referenced as "Karaoke Nazi's." (Kinda ironic for a Jew, eh?) I would never sing- I still don't. I just pick songs that I would like other people to sing. But I know I suck, so I just sang from my seat. But, if someone sang a song and we thought they did a horrible job, we would hold up signs that said, "NO!" and if they did good, we would hold up a sign that said, "YES!" and either way, we would shout at them. "You butchered it! Never sing that again!" or, "Sing it again! I LOVE that song!" (That was my thing when I was drunk- "I LOVE that song!!!")

So week after week, we would religiously show up at the sports mall, heels in hand at the end of the night when we could barely walk on our feet, and a drink in the other. Good times at the Sports Mall.

Eventually, when Aubree was doing her own shows, she started at Crabby Jacks. One in Deefield and one in Boca. With her audience building, she met a lot of people- and so did we... especially the ones that would buy us drinks (those were our favorites). One person in particular that became a groupie- Lee. Now that it's the "in" thing to do, I would like to clarify that I was going to Lee's bar (I reference SoCo as Lee's bar) before it was the coolest place in the world to everyone else.

Off Key hasn't been around forever (and barely as long as I've known everyone). But the people I've met through this experience are people I will know for the rest of my life. Some are assholes and cunts, and some are honest and naturally good-hearted. But all in all, I love that crowed. They truly make me smile when I walk in there and they sing a song that I LOVE!!!

So I know I'm not there religiously anymore. And I know I don't sing and have no room to criticize. But Robert, Doris, Aubree, Sissy, Lee, and many more people that have come and gone, I will always remember because those experiences with those people hold a lifetime of happiness for me. Despite what they are doing now or what the future holds for all of us, we will have always had our wonderful (and mostly drunk) karaoke nights.

Lee's Karaoke Story

Posted by SOCOLOUNGE on 10-Nov-06 in Karaoke Stories

My story is more of a life lesson I learned which was due in part to karaoke.  As most of you know, the one person that means more to me than the world is my father, Butch.  What you don't know is that there was a brief time when we weren't this close.  We had a falling out when I was in high school and I went to live with my crazy-ass mother.  My dad and I didn't speak for almost a year.  Long story involving that so I'll skip to the point.  We finally decided to start hanging out once a week and try to mend the fences that were broken when I left.  We found a place called Seven Star in Tamarac.  They had karaoke going once a week and after the first time we went, we were hooked.  It became our father/son night.  No girlfriends, none of his wives, just us.

He was always a great dad, he coached my little league teams, taught me the value in honesty, but most importantly he showed me responsibility.  After going to karaoke and hanging out after a while, I realized he was much more than just a dad, he was my best friend.  We kept the tradition going all the way up until I moved to Atlanta a few years ago.  Every week you could find us at either Crabby Jack's or Murphy's.  We have helped each other through some tough times by getting together, drinking, singing and then our nightly conversations until 5 o'clock in the morning in CJ's parking lot.  In the process we made a lot of great friends, granted he found two wives that were as nuts as could be, but we found some good ones through the years, too.

When Robert decided to start Off-Key, I had no choice but to bring them in a couple of nights a week.  Off-Key has found a way to bring a family-style atmosphere to a scene usually reserved for drunken birthdays and drama dens.

On behalf of Southern Comfort, I would personally like to thank all of the Off-Key regulars for putting on such a great show night after night.  I can't wait for tonight, see you all later.

Lee (Baaaah, Biter, Windex Man)

My Karaoke Story

It's all Sissy's fault

Posted by ROBERT on 09-Nov-06 in Karaoke Stories

Yep...Its all Sissy's fault.  Not too long after we moved to Florida, Sissy started waiting tables at a sports bar on Commercial Blvd.  She was really excited about Karaoke, and asked Mom and I to come out and listen to her sing.

Mom and I went along and were quite impressed at how good she was.  Throughout the night, Sissy kept bugging me to sing with her.  You wouldn't know it now, but back then, me getting up in to speak in front of more than 3 people made me sweat!  No way was I going to get up on a stage and sing!

Well, she kept bugging me and around three or four Long Island Ice Teas later, I finally got the nerve up to get up there.  We did "Summer Nights" by Olivia Newton John and John Travolta....I was hooked!

A couple of months later Sissy started doing Karaoke shows and Mom and I would hang out and always have a great time.  It's been almost 5 years since that first night, and Karaoke has become a HUGE part of our lives.

I'd have to say the best part is all the friends we've made along the way [ you all know who you are ] and all the great times we've had.   I have no doubt that there are many more friends to be made, and many more great times to come!

I want to thank all the folks that come out to support our shows because without you guys it wouldn't be the same. [ I just love this picture....it says it all! ]

Special thanks go out to our great KJ's who keep the crowds coming back!

Ok...enough of that crap :)  The weekend is coming and as always, great shows all over the place.  So start the weekend off this friday at Southern Comfort with your host Aimee for a great night of Karaoke fun!

[ I did mine...who's next? :) ]

The birth of B-BOY GMAC

Live and uncut...well maybe a little

Posted by GREG on 08-Nov-06 in Karaoke Stories

Ok here it goes...this is the best i can remember (been alot of wild nights since then).

My first offkey experience was about 1 year ago. my buddy sean told me about the show at turn3 and said i need to go with him so after about 3 hours of trying to tell him i was frightend by the stage...he convinced me.

That night i met vic, roxy, liz(betty) marc and wes, minx(where ever he went??) leslie, sue, will, the other will, aimee, mikey detroit, jon o, grandpa ty, tomy, mike and jordan. i gotta say that it was nice to actually get out and meet some new people and i made some great friends that are still with me now...and hell i work for robert too!!!

As for my begining as the infamous B-BOY GMAC.......i am a breakdancer as well as a studier of hip hop style and have been for about 10years, i guess the name just stuck....personally i like sugerpuss better(<3 stephaine) :-) but whatever works right? so my B-BOY name became my KJ name as well...funny huh?

I was shy on stage at first singing mostly pop and boyband song..because that was what i knew at that time....and i had to be tipsy to sing...HAD TO!!! nowadays...i'm way more secure on stage and can go all out sober as hell...not that i do it but i can lol

Being a part of this crew has really made me a better person i think...knowing that i have friends that will be there for me no matter what is a great feeling...especially after i get jerked around by wretched females with issues about using guys for rides and free drinks...HA!! (OWNED) :-)

But seriously the offkey crew has done alot for me and to them i am forever greatful! i'm not sure what my future holds, but as long as you all are my friends..i ain't worried about a thing

Thank you,

Gregory S. MacDonald

MY FIRST EXPERIENCE.

Karaoke story! from the bottom of my heart

Posted by UMPASHORTY on 08-Nov-06 in Karaoke Stories

Hi Everyone,
This is your Photo Blogger Holly. I would like to tell you about my Off Key Karaoke experence. I have had so many in the past couple of months i've been coming out to Karaoke. Well lets just start with the first time.
I first would like to start off by saying Thank you to my friend/ my Brother B-Boy Gmac (Ladys he's single ;), he was the one that got me started with going to Off Key. If it wasnt for him i would of never gotten into the karaoke scene, cause i can't sing worth a damn and always thought if you went to these karaoke places they would make you get up there and sing, so i never went. So once Greg and I started talking and became great friends and got know my family, he was like you have to come out to off key at soco with me . I was like i don't sing and he was like you dont have to sing just come and hang out and have a good time, so i gave in.
And you know what that night was the greatest night of my life...I had so much fun and got to meet such great people that i can call not just my friend but my family. And that is what Off Key is all about making you part of the family. Like the first time i met Robert such a great guy and my adopted father. if it wasnt for him i wouldnt be photo blogger. The day i met him i had my camera and just snapping away taking pictures for memories and Robert came up to me and introduced him self and said if i could email him the pics i have taken and he would put some on the website so i did, but what he didnt know is i took over 150 pics that night, but he found out the next day when i emailed it to him, then he emailed me back and said it was offical that made me the website photo blogger. ( So if you see me with a camera and dont want your picture taken or video taped, just let me know, cause once i start i don't stop. and i just made a dvd of the shows which some video will be posted soon).
So robert i just wanted to say Thank you so much and i love ya to death. I also cant forget Mama Doris love you to Doris. And my four sisters Sissy, Aimee, and Aubree and Jenna. I <3 you all. And all my friends that i have made Will, Ashley, G, Stacy, Lee, Butch, Jorge, Sarah, Michelle, Anita, Vic, love you guys too you kick ass. And also if it wasnt for my brother B-Boy mac and comin out to Off Key Karaoke i would of never met another greatest, sweetest man that means the world to me and care so much about...my Boyfriend Ronnie ( as many of you know him at the show as A.K.A: REV RONMAN,RONNIE AFTERSHOCK,
HOOTER MCBOOB, SEX MACHINE OF DANGER, AND RONALD MACDONALD). Well I'll just keep on going  but this is good for now. And i will post more stories later on. hope to see more new faces out at the shows.
Take care and love you all.
                                       xoxo

Tell us your Karaoke Stories

Let your creative juices flow!

Posted by ROBERT on 07-Nov-06 in Karaoke Stories

Some time ago, during karaoke shows, some of the singers [ you know who you are ] would pass their time waiting for their next song by putting together some of the funniest stories I've ever seen!  Now that we have a blog up, I'd like to get those stories online.  So get your creative juices flowing think up some good stuff.

If you want to write Karaoke Stories, register on the site [ if you haven't already ] and send me a note letting me know you want to post Karaoke Stories and set up your account with posting access.

The stories can be about you and your experiences at karaoke shows, how Karaoke has affected your life, or just plain fiction.

Anything is game as long as it's not mean or insulting towards anyone else.

Lets have fun with this one!

Almost lost the blog today!

Advances.com to the rescue

Posted by ROBERT on 05-Nov-06 in Who's Your Daddy!

I was working on the back end code of the blog and transferring files back and forth.  I had created some directories to store some additional files and moved them up to the server, when I wasn't paying attention and I put them in the wrong place.  No biggie...just select the directories and delete right?  Only if you're paying attention!

Not only did I delete the empty directories, but also the directory where all the blog entries and photos are stored!

I could only sit there and watch as over a hundred files and photos were being deleted right before my very eyes.  GONE!  Everything GONE.

Well, not all was lost.  Thanks to the folks at my hosting company Advances.com, everything is as good as new!

One call and they were able to restore everything back to the way it was in minutes!  That's service!

Thanks Advances...you saved my butt!  If anyone ever needs web hosting services, I highly recomend them!

SoCo Scaryokey Party

Holy Crap Batman! What a night!

Posted by ROBERT on 01-Nov-06 in Southern Comfort

The Off Key Karaoke FaithfulWOW!  If you weren't at Southern Comfort last night you missed one hell of a party!  It was THE place to be in South Florida for Halloween Karaoke.

Everyone turned out in force all dressed up in some awesome costumes.

We had she devils, nurses, pirates, a dominatrix and her slave [ Damn she was hot!!...hell...ALL the ladies were SMOKIN'! ] you name it, and it was there.

The crowd was huge.  As you can see from this pic, the Off Key Karaoke faithful showed up in force but it doesn't show the whole story.

Me and JennaThere were so many new faces that I couldn't make it around to meet them all...it was truly WAY better than anyone expected.  We definitely want to see some of those new faces back!

Lee decked the place out great with black lights, cobwebs and a fog machine...really made the atmosphere great.

Pics are in the SoCo Gallery.  There will definitely be more coming so keep checking! [Thanks Holly! ]

There were lots of cameras around, so if you have any pictures from last night that you'd like to share, please send them to me and I'll post them in the gallery.

We had a great crowd at Tricky Dick's on Monday night.  Many of the Off Key Karaoke faithful came decked out in their Halloween costumes and enjoyed a great night of Karaoke.

I got several great pics and they are in  the Tricky Dick's photo gallery so make sure to check them out.

SHOW SCHEDULE UPDATE:  At their request, we will be moving the Monday shows at Tricky Dick's to Sundays starting this Sunday, November 4th!
